He Kupu Pouārahi

A Word from our School Leaders

Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa.
Nau mai, haere mai ki Te Kura o Maungatapu

Welcome to Maungatapu School. We are a proud school with a rich history that centres its learning programmes around positive relationships.

At our school we have two prominent sayings:

1. Treat the children like they are your own

2. Look after the school and it will look after you.

It is imperative that we get to know you and your child so that we can do everything we can to assist our children in reaching their utmost potential.

We also want our children and their whanau to feel like they belong. We do this by providing a learning environment that is positive, caring and safe for all children.

We are really fortunate to have an excellent teaching team who are passionate in ensuring our Maungatapu School children achieve success academically, socially, culturally and emotionally.

At Maungatapu School we cater for children in both Rūmaki (Māori language immersion) and Aūraki (Mainstream) education. This allows children the opportunity to engage in a wide range of learning opportunities.

Lastly, our board of trustees provides effective governance to allow for improved student outcomes.

I look forward to meeting with you and your child and welcome any new families to visit our wonderful school.

Maungatapu Primary School is a great place to learn for everyone.

Tane Bennett, Principal

Kia ora e te whanau, e oku hoa, ko Owen Allsop toku ingoa.

He Tumuaki Tuarua ahau ki Te Kura o Maungatapu.

At Maungatapu School, we provide a nurturing and stimulating environment where each child’s unique strengths are recognised and developed. We see our students as explorers, eager to sail away on journeys of discovery that foster curiosity, wonder, and a love of learning. By encouraging our tamariki to be adventurous and ask questions, we help them build upon the qualities they already possess, setting them up for future success.

Grit—the ability to persevere and remain resilient through challenges—is a key quality we aim to cultivate in our students. We believe that learning to face obstacles with determination and resolve is essential for growth and achievement. Through guidance and encouragement, we help students develop the grit they need to overcome hurdles and work steadily toward their goals.

Kindness, collaboration, and empathy form the foundation of our approach. We encourage our learners to connect with others and understand their role in a global community. At Te Kura O Maungatapu, we believe that every child has the potential to achieve their best, and we are dedicated to helping them realise their goals with courage, curiosity, and resilience.

Owen Allsop, Deputy Principal.
